This unit has been developed with two informing frameworks in mind. The two frameworks are: Michael Halliday's, Functional Models of Language and the Gradual Release of Responsibility Model. These two frameworks were used in this unit because students are learning to become independent workers. Therefore it is necessary to gradually release the responsibility that the teacher has over the students and students must take more control over their learning.
Michael Halliday's functional model of language was also used in this unit because students need to learn to develop their literacy skills and understand inferred meanings in texts.
